We are beginning the 3rd quarter focusing on grammar. We will introduce other topics as the quarter progresses
Grammar is the study of the way words are used to make sentences. Our class will focus on the eight parts of speech.
NOUN: A noun is a person, place, thing,or idea.We will be learning and dissecting ten different types of nouns.
The 10 noun types we will be interacting with include the following list:
7. Concrete nouns
Common nouns is non-specific people, place, thing,or even idea in any case.
In Iowa i went to this place that had a lot of food and my,parents and i went there.
Material Nouns Are nouns that are things that are made out of something.
My shirt that i wore yesterday was made out of cloth.
Compound Nouns are nouns made out of two words.
This Morning my Mom was Nice enough and Cooked me some Breakfast.
Pronouns are words that actually replace nouns
The Bear slammed his opponent down in the woods floor and he was Victorious.
Abstract Nouns is something special you can't touch.
Before my mom had surgery i could see the bravery in her eyes and knew that she would be in good health soon.
Concrete Nouns is something you can touch that could be special or not.
My Mom was so special that she got her ingredients from her mom to make delicious cookies.
Collective nouns are nouns that mean a specific group.
When i went to Arkansas i saw a herd of buffalo outside my granddads window.
Uncountable Nouns nothing that cant be counted.
There are alot of Milks at the store by my house.
Countable Nouns are things u can put in groups
I had one apple so i put it with a group of apples.
Homophones are words that have different spellings, different meanings, but sound the same. Like, for example the word BEAR and BARE sound the same, but BEAR means an animal in the woods and BARE means like using your bare hands.
1.Read the passage then answer the question
Construction on Florence's grand cathedral began in 1296.Over a hundred years later, however, the structure remained unfinished, with an enormous hole in the roof. The designers had intended to top the cathedral with the world's largest dome, but this plan was stymied by architectural limitations. The main factor stalling progress was the fact that no one knew how to create such a massive cupola without large, cumbersome support systems.
What is the meaning of cupola as used in the passage?
Homographs are very easily confused with homophones that we studied last week. homographs are words that have different sounds, different meanings, but are spelled the same. For example, BASS could be a fish or BASS could be the sound from music or a deep voice. It depends on how the word is used in a sentence.
Another example is BOW could mean like you are going to tie a bow on a present, or it could mean that after a performance you take a BOW.
All these shoes are Air Jordan and They are from the man himself Michael Jordan. He's one of the Greatest basketball Players of all time and he wore alot of his own shoes.Like The Flu Game 12's there just like the ones on the top right but there Red and Black and there nice shoes because he wore them when he had the flu and he played in the game even with flu.
Inference means to use the clues in the text to discover what is NOT directly stated. The example we use in class is Ana collected shells, then she went for a swim in the cool, salty water. We can use inference to implicitly know that Ana is at the beach. The short passage never says that she is at the beach, but we read between the lines and use context clues to figure it out.
